May 15, 1953 was a busy day for the FIve, as my diary entry shows -

"Met Salt City 5 at Sampson Air Force base hospital (Geneva, N.Y.) where they played for 2 hours in 4 wards. Doctors were very happy because some of the Korean vets showed responses to the music they had never seen  before. Had great dinner at Officer’s Club. Band then played in base theater..most modern in N.Y. state. -seats 3,000. Played later at Officer’s Club. Left and drove to Sigma Chi house at Cornell. They had beds for us. Didn’t sleep because band had to begin at 5:30 a.m. for the first party ! Band played from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.They served orange blossoms and place was jammed. They had cops outside. Ate breakfast and went to bed. Began playing in backyard by swimming pool from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. ! What a party ! Girls were thrown in pool. "

(Next job was the Persian Terrace at the Hotel Syracuse.  Only 20 hrs. a week for five nights. A nice rest. )
